Executive, corporate and individual outplacement success stories.
Outplacement Case Studies.
Executive outplacement brings welcome support.
Working in today’s global economy can mean changing career many times. This can be especially true for executives and board directors, and this is where executive outplacement provides a solution.
A global leader in engineered systems announced a move to consolidate overseas leading to the departure of a very senior engineering executive. They asked several executive outplacement firms to detail their outplacement support services. Ramsey Hall Career Management was chosen as a key provider of outplacement support. This was because of the expertise of our team and the excellence of our industry contacts.
As is usually the case, the career transition process was a source of stress for the individual involved. The assigned career coach initially concentrated on establishing a rapport and agreeing the best way forward. Psychometric assessment was used to gain an understanding of the participant’s strengths. It also aided the discussion and provided information for the CV.
Focussed on the participant.
The second stage involved the outplacement consultant and participant working through career issues. Our career coach then advised the client on the design of a CV as well as a LinkedIn profile. Also assistance around application making was provided.
The key differentiator was that our career coach worked closely with the participant to put together a list of head hunters to approach. We can do that because our contacts and knowledge are second to none. We have been advising clients since 1991 through the Ramsey Hall and The Occupational Psychology Group brands.
Our career coach then helped tailor his CVs and covering letters for each role and then helped him prepare for the head-hunter discussions. Advice around interview technique, handling recruiters and managing the offer stage was provided as and when the need arose.
A timely outcome.
The whole process took three months to successful transition from engaging our executive outplacement support right through to accepting a job offer.
Outplacement help for an individual whose career had been blown off track.
Often life’s events dictate an individual’s circumstances. These can be made worse if it impacts an individual’s work/life balance. Engaging outplacement support is even more important when the participant is facing adverse personal circumstances.
Our participant client had taken time off work to care for a sick relative. He had resigned from his job to facilitate this. Six months later and his personal situation had changed. He was, therefore, back in the job market. Outplacement support was still on offer as part of his severance package. He approached Ramsey Hall Career Management as he wanted to work with a respected outplacement consultancy who could afford him the one on one attention he needed.
In the mind of the participant the main concern was the missing time without a job. Also, he was concerned that his personal financial situation was rapidly deteriorating. He, therefore, needed significantly more support from his outplacement coach than just job hunting advice.
Our career coach met the participant for a coffee and a chat to understand his situation in greater detail. The immediate need was to provide details for the participant around available benefits and financial advice. Our outplacement consultants are not financial advisors and so our support was largely around pointing him at the right governmental sources. This may seem simplistic, but it was not something the candidate had even considered.
Secondly, psychometric assessment was set up to help understand the participant’s strengths and career objectives. This was fed back to the participant with guidance on how the competencies might be incorporated into his CV. A week later and the CV was ready for releasing to the market.
Our career coach then worked with the participant on a one on one basis to target his CV at relevant recruiters, to review his social media and to prepare for placement.
Notwithstanding that he had not been working for about 9 months, it took just three months from the time we started working with him for him to make the transition. All agreed that this was because Ramsey Hall Career Management’s team had the outstanding knowledge and experience to give him a game-changing advantage in the market.
Focused, business orientated, but personal careers advisory gives participants the help they need to make a successful career transition.
Group outplacement support following local authority cuts.
A major local authority was going through a restructure to reduce costs and improve efficiency. They had already decided to engage an outplacement consultancy to provide outplacement support for up to 22 participants in a group outplacement programme.
Their challenge was to select an outplacement provider that would be cost effective whilst avoiding the “one size fits all” approach so typical of many larger providers.
Ramsey Hall Career Management was approached because of our growing reputation for success and understanding of the public sector.
The engagement involved three half-day workshops covering subjects around CV preparation, employment agencies, social media, job boards and so forth. Each participant also benefited from detailed Psychometric Assessment provided by The Occupational Psychology Group (OPG) with one-to-one feedback. Ongoing telephone support was also available.
The client felt that the budget was reasonable, in very difficult circumstances, and the solution appropriate. The participants without exception rated the course as “excellent”.
